Prairieville hospital closes after state license revoked

The Louisiana Department of Health notified Prairieville Family Hospital that the facility had not met the state's criteria to operate as a hospital, forcing its closure before April 29.

In a Facebook post, the privately run hospital reported the closure and that its license was being revoked.

"The revocation is not related to patient care in any way," the post on the hospital's page read. "It's due to a law that requires a hospital to have a certain number of patients per day for a minimum two-night stay. We were assured that they were not going to close us, but on Monday, at our hearing, they refused to grant us the extension we requested."

According to a report by Becker's Hospital Review, the state department detailed in a letter to the hospital that it had violated state law by operating as a freestanding emergency department that was not part of the hospital's main campus under licensing law.

Located along Market Place Drive in the northern Ascension Parish area, the hospital had been open for about five years.
