With a grant from the The Claire Carline Memorial, study.com licenses were purchased for students to improve their class grades, content understanding, AP scores and ACT scores.

A grant from the Claire Carline Memorial was used to purchase study.com licenses for Ascension Parish students to improve their class grades, content understanding, AP scores and ACT scores.

According to Dutchtown High School's Mandy Perret, it was used also for career research, ACT review, AP review, PSAT review and for exploratory learning.

The school continues to grow and was in the top 7 percent of open enrollment high schools in the United States.

Through the grant, students were assigned work on study.com to provide understanding on new topics as well as reteaching assistance students felt they needed help to understand.

Through the review the program provides, students get detailed descriptions when they miss a problem, helpful videos, practice quizzes and worksheets.

One student, Nathan Henderson, said, "I like how it aligns with the course material and substantially explains it before testing on it."

Another student, Avery Geraci said, "I like to use study.com because concepts are thoroughly and clearly explained so I don't have to go back and rewatch the videos multiple times. Also, the quizzes help with studying because I can see what kind of questions are commonly asked on tests."

Claire Campagna added, "I use it to solidify what I already learned in class and to test my knowledge. I like how simple the videos are and how many specific topics they have in all areas."

The program allows students to keep plugging at a difficult task until they mastered it. Through the vast variety of lessons, students can always find what they need without being bored by the content or the program.

It allows the teacher to analyze students' proficiency and where they can improve. Students also have the opportunity to use the program at home.

The Ascension Fund is a non-profit organization established in 1991 by the Gonzales Rotary Club as an instrument for private sector leaders to invest directly in the work of individual teachers and schools through grants for innovative ideas and programs in Ascension Parish public schools. To date, the Ascension Fund has awarded approximately 1,500 grants representing more than $1.8 million dollars in the school system. For more information, visit www.ascensionfund.com.
