Teach for America Greater Baton Rouge's STEM demonstration day set for May 8 at Lowery Elementary School

Teach for America Greater Baton Rouge has scheduled May 8 at STEM Demonstration Day at Lowery Elementary School in Donaldsonville as a way to bring together local industry partners to showcase STEM careers to local students.

According to a news release, the event was geared toward third to fifth grade students.

"We are thrilled to co-host STEM Demonstration Day at Lowery Elementary School," Teach for America Greater Baton ROuge Executive Director Laura Vinsant said in the announcement. "This event is not just about showcasing STEM concepts but also about inspiring our students to see the possibilities and opportunities available to them in STEM careers."

Capital Area United Way has partnered with the Ascension Parish Vision Council for the grant award supporting this event, per the release. 

"By partnering with local STEM-related businesses, we are bringing the world of STEM right to our students' doorstep," Lowery Elementary School Principal Jelice Chatman said in the release. "They can see firsthand how STEM impacts their community and envision a future in these exciting fields."

More than a dozen demonstrations have been slated, including from Air Products, BASF, CF Industries, Entergy, Hancock Whitney, LSU Museum of Natural Science, Shell and Turner Industries.

Teach For America, founded in 1990, works in partnership with communities across the country to expand educational opportunities for children.
